Description

The Extended Reality (XR) Lab is a versatile space for learning, experimentation, and immersive content exploration for all UM students, staff, and faculty. XR, or Extended Reality, comprises virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality.

In the XR Lab, you can learn, research, and develop extended reality technologies, and create immersive learning opportunities by simulating artificial environments or augmenting real-world elements with virtual overlays.

  • 4 dedicated VR stations - powered by high-end desktop systems. Two stations are equipped with the high-fidelity HTC Vive Pro 2 headsets; two are equipped with the flexible Meta Quest 3 headsets, supporting both PC-VR and mixed reality applications.
  • A 9-seat meeting/teaching space - A dedicated collaboration area is available for instruction, seminars, and hybrid meetings. This space is also powered by a high-end desktop workstation, ensuring powerful computing resources are available for demonstrations and project review.
  • App Catalogue: The Extended Reality (XR) Lab Catalogue is a curated list of Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality applications. It offers immersive tools for education and research across diverse fields like art, history, and science, enabling experiential learning for all. View Catalogue

Note: All sessions include a 10-minute period for cleaning and equipment preparation. Whether you book for one hour or two, your active session time will always end 10 minutes prior to the scheduled end of your booking to ensures a clean and ready space for the next user.
