This session will provide an overview of what types of records you can find at the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections. We will discuss how to find, view, and use archival records as well as explore rare books, university records, and private records that are open virtually and in-person to researchers. We recommend completing the Introduction to Archives workshop prior to taking this one.
Learning Objectives: In this workshop participants will:
- Recognize different ways values and ideologies are embedded in information sources
- Recognize the characteristics that give writers and information authority
- Evaluate a source of information to determine whether it is valid and credible
- Recognize how culture and ideology affect the production of scholarship and privilege some voices over others
- Recognize how research, writing, and publishing practices have the potential to enrich or limit information contained in a source
