You've been told to use academic sources for your assignment. But what are they, and how do you find them? This introductory session will walk you through the process of searching for scholarly information – including how to choose keywords, select databases, use filters, and access the all-important full text. Presenters will share a variety of practical strategies and tips to save you time and help you find the best information for your assignments!
Learning objectives: In this workshop participants will:
- Recognize the purpose and scope of different information sources and whether they are appropriate and relevant for your research
- Develop and revise search strategies based on your information needs and the functionality of search tools and databases
- Identify interested parties or stakeholders, for example: scholars, organizations, governments, and industries, who might produce information about a topic and investigate how to access that information
- Understand the capabilities and limitations of different search tools and databases
- Determine your information needs and the appropriate scope of inquiry
- Consult available and appropriate information sources
