This session will explore the basics of archives for new or first time archival researchers. Learn about what you can expect to find in archives, which archives can help your research, and unpack some archival jargon. Attend this session to learn some general tips and tricks for visiting and searching an archive!
Learning Objectives: In this workshop participants will:
Evaluate a source of information to determine whether it is valid and credible
Recognize the characteristics that give writers and information authority
Recognize different way values and ideologies are embedded in information sources
Recognize how culture and ideology affect the production of scholarship and privilege some voices over others
Recognize how research, writing, and publishing practices have the potential to enrich or limit information contained in a source
