Description: The new frontier of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) is having obvious impact on teaching and learning, but are you aware of the impacts on copyright and publishing? This session will review the copyright considerations that should go into your assessment of use of these tools and their output, and what you need to keep in mind when reviewing publisher policies around use of Gen AI. If you use Gen AI, does it need to be disclosed to your publisher, and is there a copyright in the Gen AI content you want to use? What about the use of your publications in Gen AI training and the impact of Gen AI bots crawling institutional repositories? These topics will be discussed during this workshop.

Learning Objectives: In this workshop participants will:

  • Learn about how Generative AI technologies interact with copyright
  • Review the landscape of publisher policies around using Generative AI
  • Learn about the intersection of open publishing and Creative Commons licenses and Generative AI
  • Become aware of issues related to Generative AI and scholarship
