Description: This session will teach you to use a variety of search techniques (Boolean, truncation, phrase searching, etc.) that can help you save time by making your searches more effective and efficient. Platforms covered will include library catalog, scholarly databases, and even Google.

Learning objectives: In this workshop participants will:

  • Describe the basic structure of databases and how they run your searches
  • Outline various advanced searching techniques and their advantages and disadvantages
  • Use advanced searching techniques to efficiently and effectively locate information from a variety of online resources
