If you regularly source images for your projects, whether for internal or external use, it's important to think about copyright considerations. Like other creative works, images have copyright protection, and simply citing an image that you did not create may not be sufficient to permit its reuse.

This session will review copyright considerations relating to images including ownership in images, when and how copyright exemptions may apply to image use, where to find free to use images, and understanding open licenses (like Creative Commons).

In this workshop participants will:

  • Recognize how copyright protection applies to images
  • Review open licensing for images (Creative Commons, etc.)
  • Understand how to use images in a copyright compliant way
  • Learn how to search for and source copyright friendly images
