Complicated research questions require a systematic approach to searching, often across multiple databases. Employing a consistent approach to searching ensures that the literature review portion of a research project is methodologically sound. This workshop will be a step-by-step review of how to turn your research question into a search strategy, select the right database(s) for your question, and translate your initial search strategy into different databases, as well as some tips for documenting the process. This session is NOT designed for knowledge synthesis projects like systematic reviews, scoping reviews, or rapid reviews.
In this workshop participants will:
- Document a search
- Develop a search strategy using common database syntax
- Articulate the difference between keyword and subject heading searching
- Select appropriate databases for a research question
- Translate a search for use across databases
