The Web of Science (WoS) workshop is designed to introduce participants to the tools, features, and applications of this large multidisciplinary abstract and index database. This workshop will cover the features of the WoS Core collection and its functionality as well as the multitude of other more subject-specific databases accessible through the WoS platform (e.g. BIOSIS Previews, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Citation Index, and Zoological Record). The session will include hands-on activities and practical tips; you are encouraged to come with your own research topic!
In this session, participants will:
Understand the Role of Web of Science: Explain the scope, content, and unique features of the Web of Science platform and distinguish Web of Science from other scholarly databases.
Search and Navigate Efficiently: Perform effective keyword searches using advanced search options and refine search results using filters such as publication year, subject category, and document type.
Analyze Research Trends and Impact: Track citation patterns and identify highly cited papers and analyze author profiles and collaboration networks.
Manage References: Export and organize bibliographic data using citation management tools (e.g., EndNote) and save searches and set up alerts for ongoing research updates.
Presenter: Grace O'Hanlon, Liaison Librarian for Earth Sciences, Environment, Geography, Interdisciplinary Health Programs, and Natural Resources
