Managing Your Research Profile using ORCID

This hands-on session introduces you to ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) - an international not-for-profit organization and registry to help researchers establish and maintain their scholarly identity. ORCID solves problems associated with common names, misattribution, name changes, and multiple affiliations over the course of a career, and is becoming increasingly required as part of journal, grant, and ethics submissions. In this session you will register for an ORCID, start populating the account, and learn best practices for easily maintaining your profile with minimal work.

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

- Discuss authorship problems in publishing and why
creating and maintaining an ORCID profile is important
- Create an ORCID profile with name and affiliations, and import any scholarly works
- Compare and contrast ORCID with other author identification tools
- Plan for upcoming changes within the scholarly publishing cycle that involve ORCID
