The Academic Learning Centre offers tutor training throughout the year for independent tutors who wish to be on the tutor registry. The training is a six-hour full day workshop. Morning sessions focus on the goals of a tutor, the tutoring cycle, tutoring strategies, and intercultural tutoring. Afternoon sessions cover academic integrity as it relates to tutoring, the learning process, and putting specific tutoring principles into practice. The training draws on The Master Tutor by Ross B. MacDonald and is complemented with other resources including tutor training videos and handouts. All students who wish to be on the U of M tutor registry must attend the entire day of training. Please note that the training will take place in room 108 Drake Centre.
