Join us for the official opening of the exhibit: “Voices from Vimy: Manitobans on the Ridge,” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
The opening will feature a talk by archivists Tyyne Petrowski and Andrea Martin, creators of the blog “From the Somewhere.”
The exhibit uses archival materials to highlight Manitoban voices at Vimy and at home, in April 1917. The displays of this exhibit were inspired by the Vimy Ridge experience of soldier Frederick D. Baragar, recorded in his letters home to Manitoba. These letters, as well as Baragar’s wartime letters covering 1914-1919. The letters and an online commemoration of the battle at Vimy will be available at www.fromthesomewhere.tumblr.com. In coordination with the University of Manitoba’s 140th anniversary, the display will also highlight the experiences of University of Manitoba students, staff and alumni who served.
