In 1983, three professors from the University of Manitoba came together to form The Manitoba East European Heritage Society. Concerned with the increasing loss of Ukrainian Churches in Manitoba, they began to document the distinctive architecture so recognizable on the Manitoba landscape.

More about this event

In 2008, MEEHS donated their collected materials, consisting of 14 boxes, encompassing files on 150 churches including over 4000 slide images, to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections. The slides in these files have been digitized, marking the start of the MEEHS’s digital collection. After 2015, all photographs for the Collection were in digital format only.

The focus of the event is the digital collection of photos of Ukrainian churches around Manitoba.

Join Drs. Roman Yereniuk and Stella Hryniuk, and the UM Archives as we celebrate the launch of this unique collection and explore its 40-year history from development to donation.
